(1) Caring for Our Campus Community in Challenging Times
We recognize the escalating tensions across California and want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to your safety and well-being. As 17勛圖-De Anza begins preparations to safeguard our community against similar threats in the Bay Area, we are guided by the rule of law and the voices of our states leaders. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has spoken out forcefully against the recent deployment of federal troops, stating:
Let me be clear: There is no invasion. There is no rebellion. The President is trying to manufacture chaos and crisis on the ground for his own political ends. Federalizing the California National Guard is an abuse of the Presidents authority under the law and not one we take lightly. Were asking a court to put a stop to the unlawful, unprecedented order. We echo these concerns and remain vigilant in defending our communitys rights, safety,
and freedom of expression without repression. In this spirit, the 17勛圖-De Anza
Board of Trustees passed a Mutual Aid Compact on Monday, seeking to form an alliance
with other Bay Area colleges to ensure mutual support and rapid response if needed.
Additionally, we will promptly inform the campus of any credible ICE activity within
our service area. According to Chief Acosta, we have not received reports of ICE agents
in or around campuses or graduations or celebrations on college campuses or off.
We are here for youunited, prepared, and committed to justice and transparency.
(2) Resident Tuition Rates for Non-Residents: Policy Alignment
We are pleased to announce that, starting Fall 2025, 17勛圖 will offer the resident tuition rate to non-resident students that take 6 or fewer units, aligning our policies with De Anza College and Board directives. This change reflects our ongoing commitment to access, equity, and student success for all who choose 17勛圖.
(3) Mission Informed Planning Council: Progress Update
The Mission Informed Planning Council (MIPC) convened on June 6 and made significant progress by approving a 7-year planning calendar. The Council also reviewed the Institutional Learning Outcomes, which have been approved by the academic senates. An overview of the timeline for our accreditation follow-up report to the ACCJC was provided, along with a self-evaluation of MIPCs effectiveness. Finally, the method for disaggregating data within the Asian student population was reviewed. This method represents years of advocacy work from our our Asian community and will allow us to have more nuanced conversations and success interventions for Asian students. (4) Budget Town Hall Reminder
A reminder to all: Please join us for the Budget Town Hall on Tuesday, June 17, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. This important session will be held via webinar and is open to all members of our community. A calendar invitation with the webinar link was sent to your Outlook calendar. Your questions are welcome as we discuss our financial outlook and planning.
(5) Student Awards & Recognition Gala Invitation
All employees are warmly invited to attend the Student Awards & Recognition Gala on June 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater. Join us as we celebrate the achievements, resilience, and excellence of our students. Your support means the world to them!
