| Born and raised in Southwest Texas, I left home to earn a BA in Theater from the University
of Texas at Austin. While writing, directing, and acting in plays across Austin, Seattle,
and San Francisco, I also pursued my passion for graphic design, honing my skills
through independent study and mentors. In San Francisco, I worked in nonprofit organizations
and launched a professional graphic design career spanning over 25 years—most recently
serving as Senior Graphic Designer at 17³Ô¹Ï since 2015. Beyond design, I’m deeply passionate about film, particularly horror, sci-fi, and
foreign cinema. In 2022, I began pursuing an AS in Film, TV, and Media Studies at
17³Ô¹Ï and look forward to graduating in Spring 2025. In 2024, I wrote,
directed, shot, and edited my first short film, marking an exciting milestone in my
creative journey. In my free time, I tinker in my home workshop, bringing spooky ideas to life for my
award-winning Halloween display and companion website, . This hobby allows me to explore my love of folklore and cultural traditions while
expressing my creativity in a way that merges installation art, storytelling, and
                                 immersive experience.

About My NameI’ve decided to go back to my given name, Gerardo, though I’m opting to go by the shorter ‘Gera’ (pronounced ‘Heh-rah’). Reconnecting with my birth name is an important step in
honoring my Mexican heritage and staying true to myself. This change comes from reflecting
on how assimilation and the desire to fit into American culture led me to adopt ‘Jerry’—prioritizing
others’ comfort over my own identity. Now, as I continue learning more about my culture,
I take greater pride in the name that truly represents me. 🇲🇽   |
